Sammie has been in schoolhouses all her life. She taught elementary school in Virginia and Florida for 32 years. Her experience spans kindergarten through 5th grade. She worked as Author Visit Coordinator for Bay District Schools in Panama City, Florida for 13 years. Now she conducts her own school visits, attends book signings, and conferences throughout the United States.

Although Sammie retired after 32 years of teaching, she hasn't slowed down. When she's not going on adventures or volunteering, she feeds the geese and wild turkeys near her home on the Nottley River, and has found a new passion in writing for children and teachers. Sammie and her husband Bill, a retired Navy SEAL, have a daughter, a son, three lively grandsons, a granddaughter and two granddogs. They live, work, and play in the small mountain town of Murphy, North Carolina and on the beach in Panama City, FL.
